Archivo winmail.dat en correo / winmail.dat e-mail attachment

Hemos decidido que vamos a ir poniendo en el blog más soluciones encontradas en casos reales de nuestros clientes. Nunca sabemos cuando alguien más lo necesitará. Si envías un correo desde Outlook y tus destinatarios se quejan de que sólo han recibido un fichero adjunto llamado winmail.dat, es debido al formato en que has enviado el mensaje (tranquilo no es un virus). Seguramente tienes la configuración de Outlook puesta para rtf y hay programas que no pueden leer este formato, así que sólo ven el winmail.dat y no los adjuntos etc. Para resolver este problema hay lectores de rtf gratuitos, y los clientes pueden cambiar su cliente de correo. Pero siempre es más sencillo cambiar el formato en el que envías tus correos a html o texto sin formato. Para ello sigue vete a Herramientas, Opciones, Formato de Correo. If you are writting an email and send it from Oulook your recipients might complain that they only receive an attachment called winmail.dat. Don’t worry it’s not a virus. It’s probably due to your email being set up in rtf format which some other email readers can decipher. Just change your format to html or plain text going to Tools, Options, Email Format.

UltraVNC: Conéctate a otros dispositivos / Connect to other devices

La verdad es que es casi un crimen que todavía no hayamos hablado de esta herramienta, ya que es una de las que más usamos. VNC es un programa de software libre para poder conectarse a ordenadores y otros dispositivos, independientemente del SO. Puedes conectarte a Windows, Linux, iOS, Android…Existen muchos programas que siguen este protocolo, desde gratuitos a de pago- RealVNC , TightVNC etc. De todos ellos, el que más nos ha gustado desde un principio es UltraVNC.Además de ser totalmente gratuito y tener un foro muy activo, dispone de muchos añadidos que te permiten ampliar muchísimo el producto. Puedes enviar archivos, tiene un chat, permite acceso a través de web, reiniciar en modo seguro….una maravilla. El gran problema del VNC ha sido siempre el abrir puertos.  UVNC resuelve esto con su aplicación SC con la que es el cliente el que hace la llamada al técnico (y así no lo bloquea nada). Es el técnico el que abre su puerto.Requiere algo de configuración pero los resultados son perfectos. También es interesante la opción del repetidor. Para todos aquellos  que quieran crear una versión para su empresa o ir un poco más allá recomiendo mirar esta variante del SC totalmente personalizable y con muchísimas opciones. Nosotros nos conectamos tanto a Windows (todas las versiones) como a Linux desde los dos sistemas operativos. UltraVNC Viewer funciona con Wine sobre Ubuntu. UltraVNC is used to connect remotely to Pcs and other devices (smartphones) both ways.  We use it to connect to and from both Windows and Linux machines. Of all VNC programs we tried (RealVNC , TightVNC….), the one which we liked best from the start was  UVNC. Both because of its many addons  and its amazing features. It is easy to use straight from the installation and can be fully custumized to suit all needs. The biggest problem with VNC is opening ports.  They solve this by the repeater and SC (which is just perfect). Single Click was the feature that first attracted us to UVNC. It demands a bit of reading throught how-tos but it is really worth it. For those who want an even more powerful SC we recommend this customized branch.

SyncDocs: Sincroniza tus documentos /Syncronize your documents

Nos vamos a tener que acostumbrar a tener los documentos sincronizados en la nube. No sólo porque queremos acceder a ellos desde varios dispositivos en diferentes lugares, sino porque así tenemos una copia de nuestros documentos. Una de las soluciones que la gente prefiere es Dropbox, y es una maravilla. Pero la gente también acaba cansada de tener cuentas en tantos sitios. Google aprovecha esto y, junto a esta herramienta Syncdocs, permite sincronizar una carpeta de tu ordenador con Google Docs y vicecersa. De esta manera usamos la capacidad de la nube de Google Docs como sitio para guardar documentos accesibles desde diversos lugares y además como sitio para tener copia de los mismos. Ahora mismo hay una versión gratuíta aunque dicen que en un futuro existirá una versión de pago con más opciones. Entre otras cosas también se puede colaborar  online etc. We have to get used to sync. our documents with cloud apps. Not only because we can access them through various devices, but also because we then have a backup of all our data. A fantastic option to use is Dropbox, which allows us to have them on any OS. However many people don´t like to register on too many services. Google tries to help us with this allowing us to use Google Docs to sync. our documents. With SyncDocs we can choose a folder on our PC and have it synchronized (with all it’s structure) with Google Docs. We’ll have a way to access them from anywhere and a backup of our data. No matter which file or format. There is a free version and, apparently, there will be a payed version with additional features (I suppose the collaborating options of Docs).

Chrome: Sincroniza marcadores entre PCs /Sync. bookmarks between PCs

Hoy en día trabajamos con muchos dispositivos. El ordenador del trabajo, el de casa (a veces varios) móviles etc. Y el uso de marcadores (favoritos) se puede volver algo caótico. Los navegadores resuelven esto de manera sencilla, hablaremos hoy de Chrome (porque lo usamos,  lo recomendamos y lo hace de manera muy sencilla). La sincronización de datos en Chrome es sencilla pero no está habilitada por defecto.  Para hacerlo hay que ir a la llave inglesa (arriba a la derecha), pinchar en Opciones, Cosas Personales. La primera opción es sincronizar. Si pinchamos nos pedirá que pongamos el nombre y la contraseña, y después qué datos queremos sincronizar (podemos hacer marcadores, aplicaciones, autocompletado, y muchos otros). Una vez seleccionado, esta opción sube los marcadores a nuestra cuenta de Google Docs (cifrado), y lo sincronizará con cualquier navegador Chrome en el que habilitemos esta opción.  Más información aquí. Esto hace la vida mucho más fácil y es multiplataforma. Nowadays we all tend to use the Internet of various devices: work computer, home PC, smartphones, tablets and so on. Once you’ve done this for a while, you’ll find your bookmarks tend to become chaos. Web browsers help you with this taks. Some do so with apps, Chrome does it very easily. This is how. Go to the wrench (top right hand corner), then Options, Personal Stuff and you will see the first option is Set up Sync. Just enter your username and password and which personal data you want to syncronize. DO so on all computers and you’ll be fully synced. As easy as that. And works on most OS. More information here.

XBMC Media center completo / Complete media center

Bastante gente nos está pidiendo hacer media centers en el ordenador. Ahora que el streaming en Internet está cada vez más en auge, y dada la “calidad” de televisión que hay, mucha gente opta por usar el ordenador conectado a la televisión para tener internet, películas en HDD externos, streaming, música, fotos…Realmente, ¿para qué necesitas más? En estos momentos estamos probando con XBMC. ¿Por qué? Parece muy completo, es multiplataforma, puede arrancarse desde un LiveCD, y tiene muchas opciones. Las pocas quejas que hemos visto eran por lentitud…pero claro, es un media center…¡ocupa recursos si quieres que sea visual!   ¿Recodáis el media center que tenía la xbox original? Parece ser que gustó mucho y esta gente decidió intentar desarrollarla para el resto de sistemas. XBMC es un media center que reproduce todos los formatos. Además:             Es muy customizable. Admite una gran cantidad de plugins, skins, cambio de vistas, preferencias etc. Casi hasta perderte.             Usa HTPC que es el formato home theatre y hace que sea compatible con muchos recursos adicionales tanto de hardware como de software.            Multiplataforma y con LiveCD. Puede usarse en cualquier sistema, pero además puede grabarse en un CD y usarse sin cambiar el SO del ordenador. Organiza todos los ficheros de manera muy cómoda y los busca al conectar dispositivos. Ya os contaremos pero  si  queréis montaros un Media center en casa con un ordenador viejo…es buena opción. Recently we’ve received lots of requests for setting up computers as media centers. We’ve been looking around and are now trying out XBMC. Those of you who had the original XBox probably remember the media center it had. A group of people decided to develop it for other systems. XBMC is a huge media center with lots of possibilities. First of all it’s available for most OS, and even on a LiveCD distribution (so you can run it on all) without affecting your system. It can reproduce most (if not all) existing file formats, and has many other cool features: Versatility. It’s got so many skins, plugins, features to customize etc that you can really set it up to suit your exact needs. It’s fully compatible with HTPC which is the home cinema standard, so it can read and be used with all kind of software and hardware. Works on most OS and on a Live CD. It’s got  a great system of files search and organizer. A really good option to connect your TV set to your computer and create a media center.

uwall.tv: Una alternativa a Spotify / an alternative for Spotify

Ahora que Spotify está limitando las cuentas gratuítas, mucha gente está buscando alternativas. Una de ellas que nos ha prensentado una cliente es Uwall.tv :   La verdad es que (si tienes una conexión decente) es una opción muy interesante. Usa el gran catálogo de videos de youtube pero te permite seleccionarlos o clasificarlos. Nada más entrar en la página ves un montón de fotos de artistas. Si pinchas en la foto del artista podrás escuchar canciones sólo de ese artista. Arriba en la izquierda se puede elegir el género o las listas. A la derecha hay unos accesos directos para escuchar Todo, shuffle (aleatorio) o las más escuchadas. Evidentemente también podemos buscar algo que queremos. Es sencillísimo de usar, y muy visual (para qué queremos usar Spotifiy???) 😛 Now that Spotify has modified its free accounts, a lot of people are looking for free alternatives. A client showed us yesterday a very good option which uses youtube as its (inmense) database. Uwalll.tv opens with a clear wall full of photos of artists. If you click on an article, you will start listening to songs of that artist. Up on the left-hadn corner you can select the style of music and even playlists. On the right there are shortcuts to “listen all”, shuffle or “most listened to”.  The user interface is fabulous, and the way you can change from one selection to the other is smooth and easy. So why would you need Spotify then? 😛

Angry Birds: para Chrome / for Chrome

Angry Birds es un juego que ha tenido muchísimo éxito en los dispositivos de pantalla táctil. La verdad es que el juego no puede ser más sencillo: se trata de colocar pájaros en un tirachinas y derribar cosas para pasar niveles. Pero la verdad es que, como pasa en estos casos, es muy adictivo, pudiendo jugar individualmente o incluso probar a pasar los niveles entre varios y competir con amigos. Ideal para un descanso en la oficina. Ahora Google os permite instalar este juego desde la Web Store de Chrome de manera gratuita. Os lo podéis descargar como una aplicación y de manera muy sencilla. Evidentemente multiplataforma. Angry Birds is a very simple game which has had a lot of success in devices with touch screens. The only objective is to place birds on a slingshot and break things. The game can be played on your own or you can try to go through the levels taking turns with someone else. Google lets us install this game now for free, downloading it from the web store. Obviously it is OS independent.

Google Calendar: Colores en los eventos

Hace unos días Google ha añadido unos cambios en su calendario: los colores en los eventos.  Este es un tema que la gente viene pidiendo desde hace tiempo y la verdad es que lo han solventado bien. Dentro de la edición de eventos te permite cambiar el color predeterminado de ese evento (para darle importancia, saber que es personal etc). Lo bueno de este cambio es que, en principio, sólo lo ves tu, no aquellas personas con permiso para ver el calendario (sólo los que tengan permiso para ver y manejar el uso compartido). De esta manera tenemos una forma más de clasificar nuestros eventos. PD: Por cierto que Google ha aumentado el número de contactos que podemos almacenar en Gmail. This new feature Google has added to its calendar is one that was being requested by many, and it has been done nicely too. Google now allows us to change the color of an event form our normal calendar colour to one of our choosing in Edit event details. The good thing is that this change is only seen by us (and those with TOTAL access to our calendar) but not by those who only see our events. So it is a nice way of managing our own weekly events. PD: Google has also increased the number of contacts allowed in Gmail.

Google Herramientas para Webmasters/Webmaster Tools

Este blog siempre ha sido para  difundir herramientas gratuitas para la gente que no esté tan metida en estos temas informáticos. Hablando con amigos el fin de semana me ha dado cuenta que, aunque no queramos, a veces damos por obvias ciertas soluciones que no lo son. Y siempre hay que bajarse del burro para mirar las vistas 😀 Hoy en día, con los gestores de contenido, mucha gente lleva su propia web. Y como su público va a  usar Google principalmente, es necesario que conozcan esta herramienta que usamos todos los que nos dedicamos a esto. Google Webmaster Tools es una serie de ayudas gratuitas (sólo hay que darse de alta con una cuenta de gmail, Google Apps o similar), para tu web. Entre otras cosas permite solicitar el alta (y baja) de la web en el buscador, ver los errores que Google detecta y por qué, ver datos de búsqueda de tu sitio por palabras, enviar un sitemap, los enlaces a tu sitio e incluso sugerencias sobre cómo mejorar. Eso si, para poder usarlo en un dominio debemos demostrar que es nuestro ya sea subiendo un archivo que Google nos da o cambiando registros en los DNSs. PD: Destaco la opción “explorar como Googlebot” para descubrir como Google ve tu página y que debes hacer para cambiarla. Decididamente es una ayuda muy útil para los que gestionen webs (y gratuita). Al hilo de esto recomiendo la lectura de la guía SEO para principiantes de Google que aclara muchas dudas sobre gastar dinero en SEO y cómo posiciona ella las páginas. However, talikign to some friends this past weekend, I’ve realized there are some tools we still take for granted. We are too used to talking with other IT workers or people with high computer skills. We must, sometimes, stop and kneel to smell the grass 😀 With the development of content managers, there is an increasing number of users managing web pages. Google can help them to position their web better in the searhc engines. Google  Web master Tools is a set of…tools (LOL) that Google gives us to try and improve our web page. It shows errores Google finds, words people use to get to our page, places with links to our site, we can use it to send a domain to Google to have it considered, send sitemaps and so forth. I like the option to see the web page like Googlebot does, because it allows us to see our webpage just as Google would and so modifiy it according to our needs. For all of those with web pages and starting in this complex world, I recommend you to read Google’s SEO starter guide. It makes many concepts much clearer and will make us decide if we really want to pay to have our SEO improved…or if it’s really worth it.

Tubeplus: the sharing site backed by The Pirate Bay (ENG)

Some days ago our English-speaking readers asked us for information about sharing sites similar so Series.ly. I don´t know of any such project, but I did like this web site which is having a lot of success. In my opinion one of the biggest dangers of Tubeplus is it´s open nature. Being backed up by The Pirate Bay is a great asset (and also put’s you on the bull’s eye of hollywood’s censors), but I do think they should have created logins to make things a bit more complicated. However the web combines Torrents, P2P  and Direct downloads with streaming, plus it adds reviews, IMBD comments, year, filters…everything you need. It seems to be unaccesible from some places, and slow on somre browsers (IE) but when it works it does make things easier for everyone. Though I don´t know how long it will last!
