Recursos para la Navidad /Christmas resources

La Navidad ya está aquí, e igual que decoramos la casa, podemos hacer lo mismo con nuestro ordenador. Además, en estas fechas mandamos postales y puede ser el momento de saltar al envío electrónico.Aquí van algunas sugerencias gratuitas para amenizar las navidades. Árboles de Navidad Pon un árbol de Navidad en tu escritorio. Estos árboles puedes descargarlos de uno en uno, o en bloque. Simplemente descárgalos (sin instalar nada) y ejecutalos (uno o varios). Se quedarán flotando en tu escritorio, dándo un aire navideño al mismo. Evidentemente usan memoria así que no es recomendable para ordenadores con poca memoria. Postales de Jib Jab:  Cada año se hacen famosas estas postales donde podemos poner fotos de nuestros amigos o familiares, hacerles bailar como elfos o papá noeles y mandarlos por email. Una felicitación muy graciosa que apreciarán niestros amigos. Este es el famoso Elf Yourself de otros años y este año tenemos una celebración de Santa Clauss discotequeros. Normalmente Jib Jab permite uno o dos modelos de tarjetas gratuitas y el resto son de pago. Existen alternativas gratuitas de eCards (que así se llaman) para mandar en sitios como 123Greetings  etc etc. Si  las quieres más “fuera de tono” u originales, puedes elegir Wroncards, o Rattlebox. También puedes optar por poner un tema de escritorio que te cambiará todos los elementos de tu windows (fondo, iconos, letras). Pinchando en la imagen tenemos un ejemplo. Otra opción es poner simplemente fondos de escritorio navideños.  Puedes hacer una búsqueda en Gooogle Images o elegir alguna de estas que hemos encontrado:  Opción 1, Opción 2, Opción 3, Opción 4, Opción 5, Opción 6 Para escuchar podéis desde oír radios especializadas en canciones de Navidad  o usar Youtube para oír o para descargar (con esto o esto). Así que pasad unas felices vacaciones Ho HO HO!!! English: Christmas is already upon us, so why not take the advantage and start decorating your computer too. Here are some sugestions: Christmas Trees you can download one or several of these christmass trees and leave them floating on your desktop. It’s a nice seasonal decoration which doesn´t need installation. Of course it’s not recommended with computers with low memory resources as it will use some of them just to stay there. Ecards.  You can send funny festive cards to your collegues or family. From the famous Jib Jab (with Elfyourself or this Christmas’s disco Santas) to the more “original” ones in Wrong Cards or Rattlebox. There’s also more convetional ones in : 123Greetings .. Another option is to change your Windows Theme completely with this Desktop theme. Or just change the wallpaper browsing in Google Images, or selecting one of these: Option 1, Option 2, Option 3, Option 4, Option 5, Option 6 For music either choose a specialized online radio or use YOutube to listen or download using this or this. Rastrea tus entrenamientos / Follow your trainnings

Es siempre interesante ver cómo pueden salir ideas que mezclen las redes sociales, los smartphone y el ejercicio de una manera tan sencilla.  Esta que presentamos hoy es una red social donde poder hacer un seguimiento de tus entrenamientos (tanto para correr, andar, bicicleta…) y registrarlos en un mismo sitio con un mapa del trazado por Google Maps. Sólo hay que descargarse una pequeña aplicación para tu smartphone (muy ligera), registrarse, activarla y ya está.  Los resultados que da al acabar son suficientemente completos para hacer un seguimiento de tus calorías, tiempos etc. Además, a ser una red social, puedes postear tus resultados, realizar retos con otros miembros, hacer comparaciones y demás. De esta manera, añadimos el factor “pique” a nuestros entrenamientos (si queremos) lo que siempre es un aliciente más. También puedes mostrar tus resultados en Twitter, Facebook y otras para alardear de tus progresos. Hay otra opción llamada  Runkeeper que funciona de manera similar, pero que nopensamos que no es tan completa como Endomondo. Evidentemente tampoco pensamos que sean sustitutivos a aparatos GPS especializados como estos. Pero son una buena opción para estar en forma. Actualización (3/12/2010): Esta aplicación es una tercera opción, muy similar a Endomondo: Sportypal English: It’s very refreshing for us sports loving geeks to see this kind of relations between smartphones, social networks, sports and technology. Today’s web page suggestion is a social network which keeps track of your running, cycling, walking activities. You just have to install it on your smartphone, register, and run it. It will keep plot a Google Pam with information about your speed, distance and such. The info it displays allows you to keep a registry of your daily/weekly trainnings and store them all in the same place (Web). But at the same time, as it is a social network, we can compare our results to others, challenge them, follow thier improvements and so on. We all know this is a plus to sports motivation. There is an option called  Runkeeper which works in a similar way, but we don´t think is as good as Endomondo. We don´t think they are substitutes for specialized devices such as these , but they are  a good idea to keep us healthy. Update (03/12/2010): This third option is very similar to Endomondo. Quite anuncios para imprimir / Remove adds from Web pages for printing

Tal como están las cosas hay que ahorrar….y ahorrar en los consumibles es una manera importante tanto para empresas como para particulares.  Además…los árboles lo agradecen. Imprimiendo páginas web podemos decir que una gran parte de lo que obtenemos no nos interesa (anuncios, fotos….). Ahí van algunas aplicaciones para seleccionar lo que queremos imprimir. Print What you like es una página web que te permite quitar todo lo que sobra al imprimir páginas. Sólo tienes que pegar la dirección en la casilla indicada y luego, desde su web quitar los marcos, fotos etc que no queremos. Tiene muchas opciones, es multiplataforma ya que no hay que instalar nada. Aquí puedes ver cómo usarlo:   Green Print: Esta aplicación de Windows tiene versiones para uso empresarial o para usuario doméstico. Necesita instalación y no tiene tantas opciones como Print What You Like, pero mucha gente preferirá tener algo fijo instalado. El único inconveniente es que la versión gratuita está subvencionada por anuncios. Nuke Anything enhanced: Otra modalidad. En este caso es una extensión para Firefox. Sólo hay que seleccionar el área que queremos quitar. Además tiene la opción de recordar estas selecciones si queremos para impresiones futuras. Otras alternativas a probar: HP Web Printer. So it is a good idea to select what we want to print and not print out more than we should do. Plus the trees will be grateful too. So here are some programs we can use to remove content of web pages before we print them out. Print What you like: Is a web page, so you can use it anywhere and on any system. It’s very easy, just paste the address on the box and then remove any box or image you don´t want printed out. Green Print: Green print has to be installed and is only for windows. It has less options and is supported by adds, but some people will like to have such a program installed instead of having to look for the URL. Nuke Anything enhanced: This is an extension for Firefox. It’s very easy to use, just select what you want and remove it. It also has the option to remember this selections for future print outs of the same page. Other options:   HP Web Printer. The Primilator

La web de manera sencilla / Easy way to understand the web

El equipo de Chrome a puesto en Internet una web, completamente hecha en html5,  destinada a la gente que use Internet. La web, en formato cuento, explica de manera sencilla los términos principales que intervienen en Internet. Además de ser visualmente bonita, es una lectura muy recomendable para entender un poco “que está pasando” mientras uso Internet.  Eso sí, todavía la web sólo está en inglés. English: The team responsible for Google Chrome have produced a guide, in the form of a Web page, to explain the INternet (sounds big doesn´t it?). The Web page, completely designed in html5, tries to describe, in lay-man terms,  the main steps and technologies involved in your broswing experince. It’s a most recommended reading for anyone who wants to kee up to date with what is happening around them, no matter your technological knowledge. For those of you with a more geek-profile, it’ll be fun to see  all these technologies described easily and it’l be apleasure to see such a nice html5 web page. And you can always refer to it when talking to “normal” users.

Optimiza tu conexión/ Optimize your connection

Hace unos días pusimos un truco para optimizar las conexiones cambiando los DNS. Hoy ponemos un programa que cambia la configuración de nuestras tarjetas de red (tanto wifi como ethernet) para que la conexión sea más rápida. SCP TCP Optimizer: Este programa gratuito modifica el registro de Windows para cambiar las características de la tarjeta. Tiene muchas opciones para usuarios avanzados, pero si elegimos la tarjeta que estamos usando, la velocidad de nuestra conexión  y pinchamos en óptimal nos seleccionará las opciones necesarias. Otra opción a este programa es Ashampoo Internet accelerator pero requiere un registro y es sólo versión de evaluación (eso si, dicen que es el mejor). English: A few days ago we posted a tip on how to accelerate your broswing experience using a DNS change. Today, we present a program that does even more. It tweaks the windows registry to set up the optimal settings for your connection/network card. The program has many expert options, but you just have to choose your speed conection, your card and click on optimal to have it set up everything for you. You can also use Ashampoo Internet accelerator but it requires registration and is just evaluation (however  they say it’s the best in its field).

Crear animaciones gratis en HTML5 /Create HML5 animations free

Poco a poco el flash va desapareciendo. Empezó siendo una manera efectiva de hacer las webs más visuales pero ahora mismo parece que le salen problemas de todas partes. Desde un principio los navegadores no lo leían bien, además sólo hace falta buscar “flash seguridad” en un buscador para ver que tiene bastantes carencias en ese sentido. Incluso son muchos los que se quejan de su uso excesivo de recursos, o su falta de compatibilidad (en Mac o Linux es fácil que cuelgue los navegadores). Apple le ha dado el que, seguramente, será su hachazo final no haciendo su iPad e iPhone compatibles con flash, y la tecnolgía libre del html5 ya es un sustituto eficaz. Hasta tal punto que Adobe ya tiene una herramienta de conversión de flash a Html5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryZP00_KhYE) y un prototipo de herramienta para crear animaciones directamente en esa tecnología (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgYMFAJXQJ0) Pero hoy hablamos de una herramienta ya existente para desarrolladores web y gente que quiera crear animaciones en general. Sencha animator es un  sencillo creador de animaciones en Html5 y Css. Esto, que a primera vista puede parecer sólo muy  interesante para creadores web, es también útil para el público en general. ¿Por qué? Ya hemos tenido casos en los que clientes exigentes quieran hacer sus propias presentaciones con algo de estilo y profesionalidad y poder tenerlos en el ordenador y en la web. PowerPoint no llega a esos requerimientos y flash exigía tener los caros programas de Adobe. Con herramientas como estas (y más que saldrán como este) podemos crear presentaciones con muchas opciones de animación, tenerlas en nuestro ordenador y que sean fácilmente exportables a web para poder verlas en los navegadores de PCs, iPhones, iPads etc. Además al ser productos web los resultados son multiplataforma y el programa tiene versiones para Mac, Linux y Windows. El único requisito para usarlo es registrarse y aquí hay un manual. English: Flash is dying. Web crawlers could not read its code, then Apple decided not to include it in it’s latest devices. Now, not only is it receiving lots of criticism becuase of its security issues (jut google flash security) or that it causes system lagging and is not 100% cross-platform (in Linux and Apple it cuases the browser to freeze frequently), but html5 appears more and more as a substitute. Even Adobe has presented a tool to convert flash videos to html5 and is working on an html5 designing tool. Now we are gradually seeing easy html5 animation creating tools. This is probably the most advanced in the free software sector. Sencha Animator allows the user to create Hmtl5 animations based on CSS and then export them to code. The user can then include it on web pages for the use in their Pcs, iPhones, iPads, the web etc. We must remind all that this is not only usefull for web designers. More and more employees want to create powerful and exciting animations for their prodcuts and be able to show them and use them anywhere. PowerPoint is just not powerful enough and you needed special tools to use flash. With these type of tools, and others to come, we can all create animations easily and free. However, you do need to register on their web first.

El proyecto Gutenberg / The Project Gutenberg

Me parece buena idea hasta el nombre. El Proyecto Gutenberg fue creado en 1971 con el fin de crear una biblioteca electrónica a partir de libros ya existentes. Su lema es “cortemos los barrotes de la ignorancia y el analfabetismo” y lo hacen fomentando la lectura y el acceso de todos a los textos. Estos textos incluídos en el proyecto son de dominio público y, o nunca tuvieron derechos de autor, o estos han expirado, o han sido cedidos por sus autores. A finales del 2009 tenía más de 30.000 libros de diferentes idiomas ( principalmente en inglés pero también en alemán, francés, italiano, español, holandés, finlandés, chino….). Como dice la wikipedia: “Todos los textos del proyecto Gutenberg se pueden obtener y redistribuir por los lectores de forma gratuita: la única restricción que se pone en la redistribución es que el texto debe permanecer inalterado, y debe contener el encabezamiento del Proyecto Gutenberg. Si el texto redistribuido se hubiera modificado, el archivo no se debe etiquetar como un texto del Proyecto Gutenberg.” Proyecto no sólo interesante por su concepto e ideales sino por proporcionarnos un sitio para descargarnos ebooks sin problemas de licencias.  El proyecto además tiene un portal para móviles de lo mejorcito para usar desde dispositivos móviles. Probadlo aquí. Es una verdadera delicia de sencillez en navegación. Pronto pondremos un post sobre ebook readers en móviles. Para ebooks de mano podéis ver aquí una buena selección. With a goal “to provide as many e-books in as many formats as possible for the entire world to read in as many languages as possible” and using as slogan their wish to “break down the bars of ignorance and illiteracy”, it claims to have, as of November 2010 more than 34.000 ebooks in various languages. If possible, all ebooks are in open formats, mainly text , but it also has html, pub, mobi… I find it is a perfect project, not only because of the good it does to our literary heritage, but because it’s a great place to download ebooks from without worrying about licenses. It’s mobile site http://m.gutenberg.org/ is a marvel of simplicity an efficiency, so you can also download ebooks to your mobile devices. We’ll soon write a post about mobile ebook readers. Nos gustan estos dos enlaces. Por un lado: Image Print Wizard Image Print Wizard es una herramienta sencilla que te permite imprimir una imagen en varias hojas. Esto es utilísimo si queremos imprimir una foto para un poster, cuadro o regalo. Con comprar papel de fotografía para la impresora podemos tener un poster de tamaño gigante. Perfecto para regalos con los que quedar bien y no gastarse dinero.       Esta otra página defiende la opción del usuario de arreglar sus propios dispositivos. Contiene un montón de manuales de reparación y una base de datos de expertos que responden. También hay enlaces a sitios donde conseguir piezas. Otra opción para ahorrar dinero.   English: Lets present two curious links we’ve found recently. Image Print Wizard is a handy piece of software with which we can print a photo in various pages.  You can choose the number of pages for the destination and the scale.  I find it very handy for presents. We can buy photo paper for our printer, then print it out in 8 A4 pages and decide if we want to put a frame on it or hang it on a wall. Is a web page which advocates for our rights to fix our own devices. So it has a lot of guides for self repair, as well as a database of experts who can answer our doubts (and even links to shops where we can get spare parts)!

Escaner e impresora a la vez /Scanner and printer at the same time

Sólo para Windows (y puede que Linux con Wine, no probado). Si dispones de un escaner y una impresora, por separados, y quieres poder usarlas a la vez pero sin usar una multifunción este programa es sencillamente genial. Es como una fotocopiadora gratuita (y en español). iCopy. El programa es muy sencillo de instalar, te pide tu escaner (reconoce la mayoría de escaners TWAIN) y te pide si quieres instalar unos extras para que cuando pulses el botón del escaner salte el iCopy. Después de eso, sólo tienes que ejecutarlo y verás que es sencillamente simple. Un botón permite elegir las opciones de impresión, el otro el escaner. Si marcas la casilla (vista previa) te permitirá seleccionar el área a escanear. Sólo pulsa el botón y tu documento se imprimirá directamente del escaner a la impresora. Si tienes conversor de pdf puedes hacerlo mismo para convertirlo a pdf. Nota:  Alguna gente dice que no le funciona (a nosotros perfectamente).Comprueba primero las FAQ y recuerda que tienes que tener .NET 2.0. Pero si aún así no te funciona se puede probar la versión anterior iCarbon. Es algo peor pero básicamente hace lo mismo. English: You have a scaner and a printer, want to use both at the same time and don´t want to buy an expensive multifunction printer? Do you want to have a free photocopier at home? If so this is the program for you. iCopy is really easy to install and use. It just asks for the scanner (will recognize most TWAIN scanners) and install itself. Then it has just a frew buttons to choose printer and scanner (if you want to change the default ones), a box to select the scanning area and a big button to run the program. Once you click on the big button it will print what you have in the scanner to the printer…. easy and cheap! It will even work to print on pdf printers so you can convert images to pdf with one click! NB: if it doesnt work you (it did for us)  please check the  FAQ and remember you have to have .NET 2.0 or above. If there’s still no luck, you can always use the previous program iCarbon. It’s a simplified version of iCopy but basically does the same.

Free Video converter es un programa gratuito muy potente y muy sencillo de usar. Recientemente ha sacado la nueva versión que además incluye nuevas opciones bastante interesantes: Añade MKV, SWF, MPEG como formatos de salida. El usuario puede solicitar un tamaño original de salida y el programa calculará un bitrate acorde para ajustarlo. Editor avanzado de preset. Puedes crear DVDs desde ficheros y grabarlos a DVDs de doble capa. Afirma poder grabar hasta 20 horas de video en un DVD normal y 40 en uno de doble capa, incluidos los menús. Además incluye muchas opciones como convertir fotos y mp3 a videos, subir a youtube, conversor más rápido y con menos recursos, formatos varios de salida (AVI, WMV, MP4, MKV, SWF, MPG, 3GP, MP), convierte a varios dispositivos (iPod, iPhone, iPad, PSP, PS3, Android), más de 200 formatos de entrada…Y TODO GRATIS! Casi indispensable para cualquier amante de los videos o Youtube. Sólo para usuarios de Windows. Incluimos aquí unas líneas de una clienta (Patricia), que se ha vuelto casi una experta en edición de vídeos, donde comenta los problemas que tuvo al comenzar y su evolución: Hola a todos, Empecé a editar videos en Windows, con el Movie Maker que a mí me parecía sencillo.  Y luego lo sofistiqué un poco con el Pinacle Studio…….  Estos dos programas aceptaban las máquinas de video que yo tengo, una handycam de Sony y otra más antigua de cinta.
